My friends Blair and Evan graciously donated this old beater Panasonic single-speed bike to me last week. Upon further investigation, it was determined that this would become a bit of a project. The frame and fork are in good shape but are desperately in need of a new paint job.
In the months ahead, I plan to sandblast the frame and fork down to the steel. A buddy back in Richmond had suggested that I get it powder coated at his friends shop. For $25-50, it is awfully hard to pass up.
This photo shows the bike in a "bare bone" state. I removed the brake levers, brake calipers, wheelset, reflectors, and cables. It turned out to be a bit more time-consuming that I had initially thought. The brake lever for instance, was held by a stripped screw. This is where Mr. Hammer came into the picture. Ten minutes later, Mr. Hammer was no more. Stay tuned for more pictures!
