My friends Blair and Evan graciously donated this old beater Panasonic single-speed bike to me last week. Upon further investigation, it was determined that this would become a bit of a project. The frame and fork are in good shape but are desperately in need of a new paint job.
In the months ahead, I plan to sandblast the frame and fork down to the steel. A buddy back in Richmond had suggested that I get it powder coated at his friends shop. For $25-50, it is awfully hard to pass up.
This photo shows the bike in a "bare bone" state. I removed the brake levers, brake calipers, wheelset, reflectors, and cables. It turned out to be a bit more time-consuming that I had initially thought. The brake lever for instance, was held by a stripped screw. This is where Mr. Hammer came into the picture. Ten minutes later, Mr. Hammer was no more. Stay tuned for more pictures!

Olivia Mancini & The Mates/ The Vermilions/ The Extraordinaires Revealed and Reviewed
When my friends called and said that they were playing a show in DC, I jumped at the opportunity to cover their show. I have seen the Vermilions kick-ass a handful of times and I have loved every experience whether it was a house show or at small venue. Jeremy Flax and friends jammed out with openers the Extraordinaires and headliners Olivia Mancini & the Mates who equally shared the rocking duties.

Of Montreal - Winter Edition
Google searches in the wee hours of the morning tend to be unproductive and typically unnecessary. Last weeks late night Google session proved to be a useful one when I stumbled upon this Of Montreal article on Pitchfork regarding an upcoming tour. Get ready to pee in your pants....NOW:
01-25 Baltimore, MD - Ram's Head
01-26 New York, NY - Highline Ballroom
01-27 Boston, MA - Paradise
01-28 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club
01-29 Norfolk, VA - Norva
01-30 Richmond, VA - The National
02-04 Athens, GA - 40 Watt
02-05 Asheville, NC - Orange Peel
02-06 Nashville, TN - Cannery Ballroom
Even if you think that they are just OK (you poor child), you ought to go to the show. Their performances include a rotating center piece with acted-out short skits during each song. Kevin Barnes and company have also been known to tour with a white horse...just sayin. I will personally be checking them out at the The National in Richmond - hope to see you out there as well!

All Our Noise Showcase Review - 1/6/10
Stewart Lupton's onstage outbreaks, Typefighter closing with a in-the-crowd acoustic tune and Miss Shavaughn & Yuma Wray singin' the blues all made for an excellent evening at the Velvet Lounge. Take a peak for yourself.
